TAKEDA

PAIN AND WILL

Between March 14 and March 30, 2017, Stella Art Foundation in Moscow will hold a contemporary art exhibition Takeda. Pain and Will as part of a socio-cultural project by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The project curator, Mikhail Sidlin has invited such Russian artists as MishMash (Misha Leikin and Masha Sumnina), Liza Morozova, Yana Smetanina, Khaim Sokol, Oleg and Olga Tatarintsev and Artistarkh Chernyshev to participate.

PROJECT IDEA

For centuries, the topic of pain and physical and spiritual feelings related to it has been attracting artists and thinkers. In modern art, too, this theme is one of the key subjects. Everyone is familiar with the problem of physical pain, be it toothache or a serious illness. Unlike their predecessors, contemporary artists often strive not only to think through pain, but also to experience it. This fact changes significantly the general mood of the artworks – submission and fear give way to fight and overcoming. Today, art can not only evoke emotions, but also help comprehend them. Thus, artworks can teach the society compassion for the close ones, and that means to help suffering people.
